Casa Mísia welcomes Paulliny Tort, a new Brazilian literary phenomenon

In The Immortals, Paulliny Tort surprised the reader with a novel set in Prehistory and accomplished a singular literary feat: reconstructing a world before language as we know it, but full of complexity, thought and imagination. Moving away from stereotypical views about the first hominids, Tort created an adventure narrative that proposes a speculative portrait of the coexistence between Neanderthals and Sapiens, in a scenario marked by hunger and bad weather.

Published in 2026, the book is already considered a public and critical success in Brazil and has confirmed translations into seven languages, with rights acquired by publishers such as Anagrama (Spain), La Peuplade (France), Hogarth, imprint of Penguin Random House (United States and Canada), among others.

Now, the author is dedicating herself to writing her fourth fiction book, and it is in residence at Casa Mísia, as part of the KEf Portugal Artistic Residency program, that she will advance in this new project. According to the writer, "this is not just an individual step, but one of Brazilian literature, which marks its presence abroad, especially in the Portuguese-speaking community."

 

Paulliny Tort was born in Brasília. He is a journalist and has a master's degree in communication and society from UnB. Erva brava (Phosphorus), his first book of short stories, was the winner of the APCA award and a finalist at Jabuti 2022. He made his literary debut in 2016, with the novel Allegro ma non troppo (Oito e Meio, 2016), a semi-finalist for the Oceanos de Literatura award. The Immortals (Fósforo, 2026) is his most recent book.
