LITERARY EVENTS
03 May 2025
Ten years after the publication of Are we here yet, which covered the first twenty years of Meg Stuart's career, the choreographer's dance company, Damaged Goods, now launches a follow-up book: Let’s Not Get Used to This Place.
In addition to Meg Stuart, the session will feature Ana Rocha, a curator, choreographer and dramaturg with a cross-disciplinary career in the performing arts. The conversation will be conducted in English.
In this publication, the New Orleans-born choreographer, teacher and curator plunges into more than a decade of works through reflections, interviews, scores and exercises, as well as notes on the practice of creating, performing, teaching and living dance. These materials are blended with accounts, essays and poetry from close collaborators and intimate strangers, alongside photos, performance texts and archival material.
Let’s Not Get Used to This Place "conveys the fullness of movements, inspirations and personalities that energise Meg Stuart's creative cosmos. It offers a personal and intimate look behind the scenes of the creative process, while exploring the world around her. As a journey through the most recent phase of her career, an inspiring manual and a work of art in itself, this book has a broad appeal for artists, students and colleagues worldwide, as well as anyone interested in performance", explain the organisers of the work.
The book is also a celebration of the thirtieth anniversary of the Brussels-based Damaged Goods. It features contributions from Jean-Marc Adolphe, Márcio Kerber Canabarro, Tim Etchells, Thomas F. DeFrantz, Philipp Gehmacher, Ezra Green, Astrid Kaminski, André Lepecki and Eleonora Fabiano, Jeroen Peeters, Gerald Siegmund, Claire Vivianne Sobottke, Maria F. Scaroni, Meg Stuart, Jeroen Versteele, Jozef Wouters and many others.
Let's Not Get Used to This Place is launched in Portugal as part of a partnership between KEF and Forum Dança.
