ARTISTIC RESIDENCY
10 Oct 2024
The apartment where Mísia lived until the end of her life, in an imposing 18th-century building on Rua de Santa Catarina in Lisbon, has been transformed into a creative space for artists selected by the Kees Eijrond Foundation (KEF) residency programme. Its purpose is also to host cultural professionals passing through Lisbon for work. The property was acquired by KEF in a contract signed directly with the fado singer in 2022.
Driven by a strong sense of friendship and with the intention of keeping Mísia's memory alive, KEF president Kees Eijrond decided to keep the environment intact, with her books, paintings, records and personal belongings, and to open the house to the public with small guided cultural visits, in dialogue with her heirs: Sebastián Filgueiras, Isaac Barros and Rizério Salgado. Another aspect of the initiative will be the future organisation of small concerts in the house, as was the fado singer's wish.

Casa Mísia Hall
KEF's Artistic Residency programme offers total freedom for artists to use their time in the house according to their own pace and interest. In addition to a fully equipped property of approximately 140 square metres, the resident also has access to Mísia's personal library, with works from various fields of knowledge. The collection is an invitation to research and also to immersion in the cultural universe of one of the greatest voices in Portuguese music.
Casa Mísia was inaugurated at the end of September by David J. Amado, a Jamaican-American choreographer, educator and filmmaker, as part of the first KEF artistic residency programme, initially designed for a studio in Outeiro de Santa Catarina, where KEF's permanent representation in Portugal is based. Aimed at supporting artists in the process of writing projects in the most varied fields of creation, the residency will also be occupied by Brazilian writer Bruno Ribeiro and Portuguese transdisciplinary artist Francisca Castro Neves. A new open call will be launched soon.
