FESTIVALS
11 Jun - 12 Jun 2022
The Festival of Thought (Festa do Pensamento) -- FesThink will debate themes such as the climate crisis, social justice, democracy and racism, among others, over the weekend of 11 and 12 June, at Solar dos Zagallos. It is conceived and produced by the non-profit cultural association Mombak for the Municipality of Almada and is supported by the Kees Eijrond Foundation (KEF).
It is a festival to celebrate one of humanity's main characteristics: the faculty of thinking. Festhink proposes a joint reflection by philosophers, actors, musicians, architects, journalists and also the public of all ages, on themes that, while profound, touch us in the most mundane ways in our daily lives. It seeks to bring the art of dialogue to the centre of social relations and also to contribute to the dissemination of critical thinking in society, as both a political action and a source of enjoyment.
The Commissioner of the National Arts Plan, teacher, essayist and curator Paulo Pires do Vale; Professor at the Department of Philosophy of the NOVA University Lisbon, João Constâncio; architect and writer and winner of the 2021 Leya Prize, José Carlos Barros; intersectional activist and multidisciplinary artist Nuna; environmental philosopher Sofia Guedes Vaz; philosopher and musician Bartholomew Ryan; actress Rita Durão; the author of the soundtrack for the series “Coisa Mais Linda”, the Brazilian João Erbetta; and the Almada Music Academy are some of the various names who will star in a transdisciplinary programme that combines the exercise of thinking with that of imagining, featuring activities such as debates and workshops permeated by musical and performative sessions. The programme opens with the lecture/workshop The Art of Flourishing, which will explore the possibilities of an ecological life in philosophy and art as a form of creative and critical coexistence. In the Solar dos Zagallos Garden, participants will be invited to practice small observation exercises of their surroundings. The debates will be interspersed with music, performance reading and poetry. Check the full programme
Project is one of the strands of an international Festival
FesThink is part of the New European Bauhaus Festival, a European Union initiative that brings together people from all walks of life to debate and shape a more sustainable future.
The main themes of the Festival are beauty, sustainability and inclusion. It shares the same goals as FesThink: to build connections between different activities and individuals, between the worlds of research, science and technology, and those of education, civic engagement, art and culture.
