Unprecedented exhibition by Eva Claessens and Julian Lennon

The artists work together for the first time

28 Sep - 23 Nov 2023

Eva Claessens opens the first exhibition at Criatura, a space in the Verride Palácio reserved for cultural activities, with the support of the Kees Eijrond Foundation. "With love from nature" is the title of the project conceived by the contemporary Belgian artist, which, at her invitation, includes the participation of the English musician, photographer and philanthropist Julian Lennon. Frameless canvas drawings, one of her trademarks, and sculptures in various materials such as ceramic or marble are some of Eva's most recent works that can be seen for the first time in Portugal.

The most frequent description of her work is that of a contemporary artist fascinated by light, who conducts deep research around each piece and paints from real models. Eva focuses on the beauty and sensations of the moment and explores, above all, the human figure. “I think my work is more to be felt than defined. That is why I like to give it the appearance of being unfinished, like life itself, and with the idea that the individual can complete the piece with their own gaze.”

Julian, on the other hand, imprints his poetic vision on large- and small-scale photographs, creating a harmonious line of communication with Eva's work, while seeking to show that nature is not always as docile as we might think. "Sometimes, there is also despair, loneliness, sadness,” says Julian.
